In this blog I have resolved not to rant about the problems of the world and the Church but rather to focus on those things which are true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, gracious, excellent and worthy of praise (cf Philippians 4:8).

I recall a story about Pope John Paul II in Witness to Hope that explains what I wish to imitate. When John Paul II was a young man known only to his friends and family as Karol Wojtyla (or by the nickname Lolek) He joined a group of dramatic players, which were forbidden in Nazi occupied Poland. While performing his reading a propaganda loudspeaker began shouting. Karol paid it no attention and went right on performing. This I see as foreshadowing and typifying John Paul’s pontificate. He never let the machines of fear overpower the love of Christ and His Church. Quoting Jesus, he constantly reminded us to “have no fear” and to “put out into the deep and lower our nets for a catch.”

Posting my personal thoughts, dreams and reflections on the internet is certainly a venture out into deep water.
